36% of Finns avoid cycling to station areas due to fear of theft - Biketti and Loihde Trust make bicycle parking safer

Biketti, which manufactures bicycle parking garages, has developed options for the safe storage of bicycles together with the Loihde Trust. In addition to the bike parking garage equipped with security technology, the range of solutions includes a bike rack that works with a smart lock.

More than one in three Finns avoids going to station areas by bike. Due to possible thefts, about six percent also have another, inferior bike at their disposal for station areas. Among other things, these points emerge in an extensive consumer survey commissioned by Biket's research company Syno International.

- Urban parking challenges and carbon neutrality goals would be served if more and more people arrived at public transport stations by bicycle. However, the results of the survey reveal the harsh fact that bicycles are simply not dared to be used due to theft, Biket CEO Henrik Lemmetyinen says and continues:

- It was interesting to notice that bike theft was considered an equally big problem almost everywhere in Finland, not just in growth centers.

Cyclists ARE READY TO PAY FOR SAFE PARKING

39% of the respondents to the consumer survey could imagine that they would pay for the safe parking of a bicycle or electric scooter in a public place, if it eliminated the deductible part of the insurance.

- Young people in particular are interested in this opportunity. 56% of those under 24 could pay for safe storage in a public place, says Lemmetyinen.

Biketti, which manufactures bicycle parking garages, has developed a solution to consumer wishes together with Loihde Trust. The end result was a bicycle parking building suitable for public transport connection parking.

- The user-friendly system enables access to the parking garage using a mobile phone. When passing through the door, the surveillance camera is activated and films the user and saves the image in the surveillance data to investigate possible abuses, says Tero Tuominen from Loihde Trust and continues:

- At desired times, users can also be required to perform biometric identification on the phone to open the door. With the extensive integration possibilities of access management, it is also possible to integrate the application into existing applications, for example public transport or real estate customer applications.

In addition to bike parking garages, Biketti has designed a bike parking rack for public spaces, which can be equipped with an alarm and, for example, a smart lock that can be opened with a phone.

1,014 people responded to the survey conducted by Syno International online during September. The sample was demographically representative of the population and the respondents were between 18 and 80 years old.
